The Wilderness Society: www.wilderness.org
In our outreach program, we will continue to join with The Wilderness Society to help organize events and provide expertise on issues. The Society’s 70-year history of success in saving and protecting wild land is both well known and respected. With a strong national base of support, they target critical pristine parcels that offer wildlife habitat, benefiting not only wolves, but other wild creatures, clear water and plant life. The strong bipartisan support that backs them and a dedicated professional staff that relies on science and economics, rather than emotional outbursts, made the Wilderness Society the most effective partner to enlist in our work. We were honored that William Meadows, their president, wrote the introduction to our recent book, Living with Wolves.
Defenders of Wildlife: www.defenders.org
Defenders of Wildlife helped pioneer the use of economic incentives to promote protection of endangered species on private lands. Experts credit The Bailey Wildlife Foundation Wolf Compensation Trust, which pays livestock owners for losses to wolf predation, as the most important factor contributing to the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone National Park and the Northern Rockies.
