FEDERAL WOLF PROTECTIONS AT RISK

H.R. 845, misleadingly named the “Pet and Livestock Protection Act,” would strip federal protections from gray wolves across the lower 48 states and block judicial review. The bill has passed the House and now sits in the Senate.

While it awaits action in the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, we must be ready for a full Senate vote. If this bill becomes law, wolf management will be left to the states, where too often decisions are driven by special interests, not conservation.

Wisconsin is already preparing. Although federal protections remain in place, new hunting rules effective November 1, 2025, establish the framework for an emergency wolf hunt if those protections are removed.

Wildlife management decisions are best guided by professional scientists and sound data, not politicians.

Living with Wolves is closely monitoring developments related to H.R. 845 and its potential impacts on wolves nationwide. We will continue to share updates as this legislation moves forward and keep you informed about future opportunities to speak up for wolves.

INSIDE ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST REMARKABLE WOLF STUDIES

Recently released trail camera footage has drawn global attention, and for good reason. It captures one of the most sophisticated examples of wild wolf behavior ever documented, offering a powerful glimpse into a world few people have ever seen.

Within the Great Bear Rainforest of British Columbia—one of the last truly wild places on Earth—wolves live largely free from human persecution. That rare freedom has given researchers an extraordinary opportunity: to observe wolves as they truly are, revealing the depth of their intelligence, culture, and enduring family bonds.

For the past three years, Living with Wolves has been proud to support this groundbreaking research program. Visit our blog to learn more.

“Have you ever wondered what wolves are actually saying to each other?”

In the heart of Yellowstone, researchers are capturing the hidden voices of wolves, documenting dozens of call types from the iconic howl to sounds never heard in nature films. With cutting-edge AI, they’re uncovering new insights into wolf behavior, movement and social life—paving the way for more accurate, non-invasive population monitoring and smarter management tools.

Join us for an unforgettable evening with Dr. Jeff Reed, whose Cry Wolf Project has created the world’s largest database of wolf vocalizations and is pushing the boundaries of wildlife communication research. You’ll discover how this technology is transforming conservation and just how close we may be to decoding the language of wolves.

Living with Wolves is proud to fund this groundbreaking research.

Celebrating the Legacy of the Sawtooth Pack

Wolves have long been shaped by legend and misconception, yet they are among the most socially complex and emotionally expressive animals on Earth. Through both Indigenous teachings and modern science, we are invited to see wolves not as symbols of fear, but as intimate, intelligent beings whose lives are rooted in connection, cooperation, and care. Will they forever remain in our subconscious or someday emerge into the light of our understanding?

Our Mission: Living with Wolves is a non-profit organization dedicated to engaging the public worldwide in education, outreach and research to promote truth and understanding about wolves, while encouraging coexistence and inspiring people to take action to protect them.
